St. John's Regional Science Fair winners

Twelve student scientists representing grades 3 through 5 at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Vermillion participated in the South Central/Southwest MN Regional Science Fair in Mankato on April 30. Competing with 1,300 others, the students utilized many tools of scientific investigation along with the scientific method to conduct and document their research.  

Project categories included Environmental Sciences; Energy & Transportation; Animal Sciences; Behavioral & Social Sciences; Chemistry & Biochemistry; Family Consumer Science; Health & Human Performance; Microbiology; Physical Sciences; Plant Sciences; Engineering, Computers & Math; and Earth & Planetary Sciences. 

The St. John the Baptist students brought home many ribbons, awards and medals. Congratulations to Grade 3: Isabelle Petit -- Purple Ribbon and 1st Place, Eva Storkamp -- Purple Ribbon and 3rd place, Joey Nauer -- Purple Ribbon and 3rd place, Christian Strommen -- Purple Ribbon, and Shawn Thorkildson -- Purple Ribbon and Book Award; Grade 4: Autumn Miller -- Purple Ribbon and 1st place, Emily Clemens -- Purple Ribbon, Mason Murphy -- Purple Ribbon and Book Award, and Grace Boyd -- Blue Ribbon; Grade 5: Nate Clemens -- Purple Ribbon and 1st place, Katie Boyd -- Purple Ribbon and 2nd place, and Elsie Kopp -- Purple Ribbon and 3rd place.
